Thanks Rota. My info comes from a case study from a strategic management text in Canada, however I believe THEY got the info from the company's public financial records. With a little legwork you should have no problem getting the same data.

Thanks for the response Nich! I think you are right in some respects, but maybe a little off in other. For sure the MBA is useful for people who have never done commerce. In fact it is a really great gateway into business for people coming from other fields of study.

I have to disagree that the classes are "dumbed down". I'd say that they sacrifice depth for breadth. Instead of 4 or 5 accounting classes, we have 2, for instance. They may not go as deeply as possible, but they skim the surface and focus not on the process of accounting (or finance or marketing) but on analysis, strategy and decisions surrounding the discipline.

There are lots of MBA haters. But I think the quality of any degree is neither up to the degree itself, nor the quality of school which confers it, but on the student's efforts to relate that study to their future.

As a person who is in an undergraduate business program my professors complain constantly about the MBA students. The courses that they are taking are dumbed down versions of undergraduate courses, the students are uninterested and are demanding of marks because their employer mandated a B- to be compensated for the program.

They say that they have an obsessive compulsion to "lead" everything, even though there are four leaders already. Another Prof said that the only thing that an MBA will buy you is a network of other MBA grads. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing I am unsure.

I feel that MBA's are good for those who did not receive an undergrad business background but I feel that the MBA is just a dumbed down version of a B. Comm.

I have read many articles hating on MBA programs (ie. http://www.bnet.com/blog/penelope-trunk/why-an-mba-is-a-waste-of-time-and-money/152) and I generally agree with them.

I think the one redeeming quality of an MBA program is that people graduating with arts degrees can finally go back to get something of use in this world, because really, whats the only only use for an arts degree? Toilet paper.

Totally. Why spend so much energy "just" coming up with problems. If you can't provide at least some solution, is it really a problem at all?

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who astonishingly knows what they're talking about on the internet. You amazingly know how to bring an issue to light and make it almost necessary. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
